An enthusiastic third-year student in Drexel University’s College of Engineering, Jeechieu Ta is pursuing a BS/MS in computer engineering. His goal is to work in the field of artificial general intelligence, or AGI, which strives to create machines that can accomplish any intellectual task performed by a human being.
Ta is the first in his family to attend college, which presents challenges of its own. He attributes his success to his co-op at Lockheed Martin and his scholarship, which allows him to augment his studies with extracurricular activities. Participating in Toastmasters and serving as vice president of the student-run First Generation, Low Income Club (FGLI) helps him prepare for leadership and build the kinds of skills that machines do not have.
“My deepest thanks to all of you scholarship supporters in the room tonight. With your help, students like me can get an amazing education, both in and out of the classroom, and achieve our dreams.”
Every spring, the Celebration of Scholarship brings together supporters of financial aid at Drexel with some of the outstanding students benefiting from their gifts. At this event, everyone can share stories and build connections that might last for years.
On April 6, 2019, Ta spoke movingly to Celebration attendees about his challenges and dreams, as well as how a Drexel scholarship has impacted the course of his life.
